I can't pick a favorite out of the 4 releases. I enjoyed all all of them about equally for various reasons. To me they were all just unique enough that they didn't feel like more of the same all the time.
Finally managed to get around to finishing all the missions and GW:EN storyline with my main.. so now I have protector titles for all three chapters.. only 54 HM missions to go for those guardian titles.. lol Needless to say I'll be staying busy for a while yet. Not to mention all that vanquishing if I wanna got that route.

In terms of artwork:
Cantha > GW:EN > Prophecies > Elona
In terms of fun, story, and gameplay:
Prophecies > Cantha > GW:EN > Elona
No, I didn't like Nightfall; it was the beginning of the end for me with GW. Since that time, ANet has made a number of choices that have gradually eroded my enjoyment of the game, and GW:EN was not enough to keep me from moving on.

1. GW:EN - far more replayable then anything before ( I <3 dungeons)
2. Prophecies - Scenery, like the missions.
3. Factions - Fast pace, hate the city, but enjoy the speed it can be completed with. Love the elite missions.
4. Nightfall - boring, only campaign i did not bring all my characters through.

Prophesies > Factions > Nightfall > GW:EN
My decisions are typically based on the amount of grind required. Prophesies orgininally started with quite a lot in the form of runes (no trader) and equipment (collectors/weaponsmiths range inadequate), however over the course of a number of patches, these failings were addressed.
Factions was a good game, but was let down by its "locked door" policy which forced players to do things that they might not enjoy.
Nightfall started ok, but then they introduced the nightmare that is pve skills and title effects. This was the beginning of the end of the skill > time idea that made gw great.
GW:EN takes every bad point of nightfall and multplies it tenfold.

You mean... introduced people to ABing? 10k is NOTHING to whine about. Anyone who does has either done it too many times, or has never done it before and doesn't understand how easy it is to get. Just like the presearing PvP round, it's an introduction, a slight taste, to see if you like PvP and didn't know it. My only locked door complaint is the no-run policy.

Ooo I forgot about the no mission thing in GWEN. Another reason I prefer it over Prophecies, but my faves still go in this order (alphabetical order by campaign and continent hehe):
1. Factions
2. Nightfall
3. GWEN
4. Prophecies

The 10k faction limit is just the locked door before you can get the into the vortex mission. There are dozens of other locked doors prior to this point which prevented you from passing until all the primary quests up to that point were complete.

My favorite is still Prophecies. None of the other chapters have wowed me like Prophecies has. They're all good in their own respect, but none of them stick in my mind like that.

Hm, hard choice. I would not want to miss any of my campaigns / expansions.
Prophecies is my first choice because of it's big amount of content. I like every area of Prophecies axcept for the post-searing Ascalon which is too much of the same. I really was glad when I made it to the Shiverpeaks.
Second if GW:EN because of the beauty of the area's and the great dungeons.
Then Nightfall; it's a great game and I especially like the Vabbi and the sulferous wasteland area's. It could use a bit more diversity in landscape tho.
Last place goes to Factions. I very much like the Echovald and Jade Sea area's but hate the Kaineng City / undercity. Aspenwood is great, and I like the possibility to own towns with alliance battles. Factions is also the smallest campaign and the Shing Jea area did not offer much for my lvl20 Prophecies char.

Nightfall.
Best story, best look, best voices, best music. And nothing beats out African themed fantasy. Well, Utopia would have but they canned it for an expansion about giant Swedes and little bug-eyed frog wizards.

Prophecies because it was the first one I played and because the last level is the one that differs it from the others. No silly easy boss fights, it's a long mission that is somewhat challenging
